Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Course to be Held 3/1/16; Notice re: Background Check Ordinance

Dear HVBSA Parents:

Please take a moment to thoroughly review the following information regarding requirements for youth sports coaches in the State of New Jersey, and in Hopewell Township, for 2016.

Hopewell Township requires that all on-field coaches (1) demonstrate proof of receiving a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. certificate, and (2) have a valid criminal history background check on file with the Township. Each requirement is mandated as part of HVBSA’s Lease Agreement with Hopewell Township for use of the Municipal Athletic Complex facilities, and further, the background check is a Hopewell Township Ordinance (06-1381).

Beginning in 2016, these requirements will become mandatory for anyone coaching youth sports that utilize any Hopewell Township facility.  Coaches who do not have proof of a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. certificate, or who do not have a valid criminal history background check on file with Hopewell Township, will not be allowed to be on-field coaches until such time that both requirements are fulfilled.

If you are considering coaching any sport in Hopewell Township in 2016, we strongly encourage you (1) to seek the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. certification during this off-season (the certification is good for life), and (2) verify that your background check is valid for the 2016 season (checks are valid for 5 years; you may contact the Township Parks & Recreation Dept. to check that yours is active/expired).

RUTGERS SAFETY COURSE TO BE HELD TUESDAY, MARCH 1, 2016

HVBSA is sponsoring a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. course on Tuesday, March 1 from 6:00-9:30 pm in the House Center of Timberlane Middle School (51 S. Timberlane Dr. Pennington). Late arrivals will not be admitted.  For more information on the 3/1 Rutgers course, please contact HVBSA Trustee Tim O’Connell at timryanoconnell@gmail.com
