Baseball 2014 Spring Travel Teams Announced
Our baseball travel league teams are selected through open tryouts, and we recently selected our 2014 spring 9U thru 12U age groups for baseball. These teams will begin having winter practices shortly at various indoor facilities to prepare for the upcoming season. Once again the boys will be playing in the USABL. Congratulations to those who made the teams. Please continue to work hard and try again in the late spring when teams for the summer districts and tournaments are selected. Your manger will provide you with the budget for this season and your individual commitment. This year payments will be expected in 2-3 installments. The tentative dates are 12/15 and 2/1 and possibly another date for later tournaments. Details to be announced.
HVBSA will be conducting 2014 Spring Travel Tryouts for the 8U team at a later date - time and place TBD (with at least 2 weeks advance notice). This tryout will take place prior to the start of the Spring Season. Any questions please contact Travel Coordinator Michael D’Avanzo – firstname.lastname@example.org
Unfortunately there will not be a 2nd 10U spring travel team because there are not enough players to form a roster.
Hopewell and Ewing Babe Ruth leagues merge for 2014 season
This past Monday, Ewing and Hopewell Babe Ruth coordinators, Mike Coryell and Joe Gambino, along with HVBSA President John Savas, met with Babe Ruth President Robert "Flip" Faherty, State Commissioner Al Solanik and District One Commissioner John Villella, and the result was a merger between the Ewing and Hopewell Babe Ruth teams.
The merger will consolidate both programs into one for the 2014 spring baseball season. This includes all rec teams and district teams. Since the new league would be comprised of 10 or less recreation teams, both leagues would keep their own Babe Ruth Charters, so the merger would be, in a sense, a "pilot" for the next season or two. If it doesn't work out both leagues would go back to their individual status.
