HVBSA Softball Rules / Division A/ 2010
Playing Time
- 6:00- skill period, 6:30 or 6:45- games start.
Our goal is to play a 4 inning game. More or
less innings can be played, but no inning can
start after 7:40. If the field is booked for
a game to follow, all play will "drop dead"
at the second shift's start time regardless
of game situation.
- All players in attendance at a game will bat
in continuous batting order. Players arriving
after the start of the game will be inserted
at the end of the lineup.
- A half inning will consist of all players
batting, or three outs, whichever occurs first.
- Teams will play 4 infielders, 2 pitchers,
and a catcher. All other players must play behind
the outfield grass. The pitcher must stay behind
the pitching machine and outside of the pitching
circle.
- Play will be called dead when the ball is
being returned to the pitcher's circle. Runners
will go to the nearest base when the play is
called dead.
- Runners cannot advance on any overthrow.
- The infield fly rule will not apply.
Pitching
- Pitching: a pitching machine will be used.
Manager will feed the ball machine when their
team is at bat. If the machine is broken, coaches
will pitch to their own team. Any batted ball
that hits the machine is dead and player gets
first base.
- Players must be encouraged to swing the bat.
After 6 swings the player will be called out.
If the sixth swing is a foul ball, the player
is still out.
- There will be no base on balls awarded. Hit
batter: no batter will be awarded a base.
Batting
- Batting helmets: all batters and base runners
must wear helmets with face guards.
- Bunting and stealing bases are not permitted.
General Notes
- Up to 2 fielding coaches will be allowed on
the field during the game. If any players are
in the dugout, one coach must be in the dugout.
- All coaches whether in the dugout or on the
field must be certified.
Procedure
- It is the responsibility of each coach to
have his/her team clean up the field and bench
area.
- The home team is responsible for getting 2
parents to work the snack bar at Quarry Field
and sell the 50/50 tickets. The home team also
prepares the field before the game (pitcher
circle and foul lines/batter box) The home team
also rakes the field after the game. A tractor
is available for this job.
- The visiting team is responsible for having
a parent supervise any children announcing the
game from the press box at Quarry. They are
also in charge of getting a write-up into the
newspaper if desired.
- Home team supplies at least 1 new ball each
game. Type of ball used is a "softie".
