Babe Ruth Draft Rules
(Approved for 2007 Season)
1.
Babe Ruth (BR) rules allow for one manager and one coach. A manager and coach will represent each Team
at the draft. If the manager or coach
is not able to attend, he may appoint a representative to act in their
place. If no one is able to attend from
the team, a member of the Baseball Committee will be appointed to draft for the
team.
·
Manager’s Options:
The child of the team manager will be placed on the parent’s team
with the round of his assignment determined by the final player evaluation
rating. These assignments will be made
by the Player Agent in conjunction with the BR Coordinator prior to the start
of the draft when the team Manager and Coach are identified.
·
Coach’s
Options. Each team is entitled to one coach’s option. The child of the coach will be placed on the
team the parent is coaching with the round of their assignment determined in
the same manner used in the assignment of the children of managers. Where the coach’s option slot has already
been filled by the Managers option, the next open slot will be assigned.
2.
Registration will be capped, depending on the number of
anticipated registrations at 12 players per team. It is unlikely that we will
exceed 8 teams, so once registrations reach the cap (96 in the case of 8 teams)
registration will be closed and additional players will be assigned to a
waiting list.
3.
Two manager’s meetings will be held: the first meeting will be
conducted to rate all the players and the second meeting will be to draft the
players that are registered. A player that has not registered cannot be
drafted.
4.
Team draft order will be determined by the strength of each
team based on the ratings of the manager and coach options. The exact position of draft order will be
based on the individual situations and will be determined by the Player Agent
and the BR Coordinator.
5.
A third meeting could be held a week after the draft if needed.
During this meeting, any late player sign-ups will be put in the pool of
undrafted players. The teams that have drafted during the previous week will be
ranked based on their previous draft, in order to determine an order for this
"supplemental draft round."
The ranking of teams as of the
completed draft will be determined by the Babe Ruth coordinator and the player
agent and presented to the managers before the supplemental draft. Any
discussion or issues will be resolved before the draft begins. The idea is to
create parity in the league, giving lower ranked teams the opportunity to draft
stronger players that have recently registered.
This supplemental draft meeting
will also serve the function of "moving players around," based on
issues that we have heard in the past ("Johnny does not want to play for
that manager, etc.") This process will look to balance rosters and switch
individual players that are ranked in kind, as opposed to situations where one
team may be losing a stronger player in favor of a weaker one. Any players that
come off of the waiting list will be drafted at this meeting as well.
It will be critical that any
discussion remain confidential, as we would not want any discussions about
conflicts to leave the room.
6.
Players that become eligible to come off of the waiting list
(due to players quitting a team) will be assigned to teams that lose those
players. The player agent and the Babe Ruth coordinator will assign these
players.
